Marijampolė's 'Sūduva' defeated the 'Bangos' club

The 11th round of the "TOPsport A Lyga" continued in Gargždai, where the recently scoring "Banga" team faced Marijampolė's "Sūduva" team. The Sūduva players, who concluded the match with ten men, demonstrated character and celebrated victory with a score of 1:0 (1:0).

The home team started the match strong with a powerful shot from Pijus Srėbalius, which was saved by goalkeeper Ignas Plūkas, returning to the starting eleven, while Natanas Žebrauskas failed to hit the ball successfully on the follow-up attempt.

In the 10th minute, Aivaras Emsis tried to punish his former team by sending the ball over the goal. Amadou Sabo responded with a header for the Marijampolė team but hit it straight into Mantas Bertašius. Later, Steve Lawson and Kota Sakurai made long-range shots.

Unfortunate circumstances struck the Sūduva team in the 29th minute when their well-performing player Markas Beneta was unable to continue the match. Young Tomas Gumbelevičius replaced him on the field.

Just before the break, Nauris Petkevičius made an impact - receiving a pass from Žygimantas Baltrūnas, the forward led "Sūduva" ahead. At the very start of the second half, the Marijampolė team came close to scoring again, but Sidy Sanokho's shot was saved by goalkeeper M. Bertašius, and N. Petkevičius hit the post.

In the 57th minute, T. Gumbelevičius, who had just come on as a substitute, received a second yellow card and was forced to leave the field. Shortly after, Ignas Venckus delivered a powerful shot, but it missed the target.

During the remaining time, the Gargždai players made many passes into the penalty area, but goalkeeper I. Plūkas, who played excellently, neutralized all the threats against the Marijampolė goal.

With this victory, "Sūduva" reached 21 points, catching up with the teams at the top of the standings, while "Banga" remained in seventh place with 14 points.
