The new English Premier League season started on Friday.

Liverpool players began their title defense with a hard-fought home victory, winning 4-2 against Bournemouth.

The English champions were taken ahead in the 37th minute by newcomer Hugo Ekitike.

At the start of the second half, Cody Gakpo doubled the home team's lead with a great shot.

However, Bournemouth did not give up and equalized the score with two goals from Antoine Semenyo.

Interestingly, this Ghanaian player faced racist abuse from Liverpool fans during the first half, resulting in a brief stoppage of the match.

Federico Chiesa unexpectedly became Liverpool's hero, scoring the team's third goal in the 88th minute.

In added time, Mohamed Salah secured the victory for the hosts.
