The declining Italian football will likely be saved by a prominent personality.

According to reports from the country's press, the most realistic candidate to replace the resigned FIGC president Gabriele Gravina is the legendary Paolo Maldini.

The 56-year-old Italian has already secured the support of the country's sports minister Andrea Abodi.

It is suggested that the new leader will face a special task – to focus all attention on the renewal of the system for developing young Italian talents.

The FIGC presidential elections will take place on June 22.
