"Kauno Žalgirio” football academy technical director Linas Treigys visited a training session of "Valencia CF”: he met with former colleagues, shared insights about the club's success, and observed the pre-match training session before the Spain "La Liga” match against "UD Las Palmas”.
This visit had not only a observational aspect but also personal significance – L. Treigys is well acquainted with some members of the Valencia coaching staff, with whom he previously worked in England. Treigys has worked with the current head coach of "Valencia CF,” Carlos Corberan, and the first assistant Jorge Alarcon at "Leeds United” and "Huddersfield Town” clubs.
From 2019 to 2022, the Lithuanian held the position of analyst on C. Corberan's personal staff and worked together in as many as 124 matches, including the appearance in the "Championship” playoff final at Wembley Stadium, which gathered more than 80 thousand spectators.
During the visit, Linas Treigys was interested in how training processes have changed since their time working together in England and how the current staff adapted methodology to the Spanish football culture and environmental conditions. Currently, "Valencia CF” is experiencing a great period – the club has not lost for ten consecutive matches (6 wins and 4 draws), including an impressive victory away against Madrid’s "Real”.
Under the guidance of the new coaching staff, the club has risen from the last – 20th place – to 10th place in the "La Liga” standings. Only two points currently separate "Valencia CF” from 8th place, which would grant them the right to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
Since January 3, when the new staff began working, the Valencia club has accumulated 33 points over 18 "La Liga” matches, averaging 1.83 points per game. If the club had maintained such a pace throughout the season, they would currently have 64 points and would be among the teams in the UEFA Champions League zone. This allows for a confident statement that "Valencia CF” is demonstrating Champions League-worthy form.
"I am not at all surprised by the current form of "Valencia CF”. I know the people working there very well and I know that these are specialists with exceptional competence, putting an enormous amount of working hours into perfecting every aspect. They are working according to the highest standards. While working at "Leeds United” or "Huddersfield Town,” I felt like I was working at NASA,” said L. Treigys.
