Kaunas Žalgiris Continues to Set Trends at the Top of the A League

The 17th round of the "TOPsport A League" took place in Kaunas, where the players of "Kauno Žalgiris" faced off against "Panevėžys." From the very beginning of the match, the Žalgiris players dominated and fought for a convincing victory with a score of 3:0 (1:0).

The spectators at Darius and Girėnas Stadium did not have to wait long for the first goal – in the 2nd minute, Dejan Georgijevičius skillfully handled the ball and, with a not strong but precise shot, beat the Panevėžys goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas.

Even after scoring the goal, Eivinas Černiauskas's team completely dominated the field. Amine Benchaib had two shots, and after a wink from Damjan Pavlovičius, V. Černiauskas had to work hard.

A little later, the players from Panevėžys leveled the game and made several sharper passes into the Žalgiris penalty area, but it was the home team that came closer to the second goal when team captain Fedoras Černych hit the crossbar.

The second half of the match also began according to the "Kauno Žalgiris" scenario. After 53 minutes of play, D. Georgijevičius was close to a double but was successfully defended by goalkeeper V. Černiauskas.

The Kaunas team secured their lead in the 62nd minute when A. Benchaibas, with a pass in the penalty area, found completely alone D. Georgijevičius, who registered his double. A few minutes later, the first goal in the championship jerseys of "Kauno Žalgiris" was scored by Fabien Ourega.

The Panevėžys team, suffering a defeat, remains in 5th place with 22 points, while "Kauno Žalgiris" sits atop the league table with 37 points.
