J. Zagurskas against the UEFA Futsal Champions League: 'We will fight for a place in the Elite stage'

“Kaunas Žalgiris” futsal team is preparing for the UEFA Futsal Champions League main stage matches. From October 30 to November 2, the Žalgiris players will compete in Poland for a spot in the Elite stage against teams from Spain, Poland, and Belgium.

Back in July, the team learned who they would be competing against in the Main stage. “Kaunas Žalgiris” will face Poland's futsal team Gliwice's “Piast”, Spain's “Cartagena” team, and Belgium's “Sporting Anderlecht” players.

“Kaunas Žalgiris” team captain Justinas Zagurskas mentioned that the team's preparation for these matches is being viewed positively. During training, the team focused heavily on balance and defense, which will be necessary during the Champions League.

“Throughout the preparation period, we worked really intensively – training every evening, putting our all into the national championship, which greatly helped us prepare for the upcoming European fights. All this time, we aimed to improve both our physical fitness and our team's overall synergy. The atmosphere in the locker room is great, we are all motivated to show our best game”, – the captain spoke about the preparation.

The first match for “Kaunas Žalgiris” in the Champions League will take place on October 30, against Spain's champion team “Cartagena”. J. Zagurskas stated that they are expecting tough matches, but throughout all the games, the team will fight for victory.

“The opponents are really serious. We will be playing against strong teams, champions; each opposing team has its strengths. We believe in our abilities, we know it won't be easy, but we will go onto the court to fight for a spot in the Elite stage”, – shared the thoughts of the captain in green and white.

The team's next match will be on October 31, against the Polish team Gliwice's “Piast”, and on November 2, the Žalgiris players will compete against Belgium's “Sporting Anderlecht” in the last match of the Champions League Main stage.

“Kaunas Žalgiris” aims to secure a place in the Elite stage of this year's Champions League. In the club's history, the Žalgiris team has reached the Elite stage twice. This year, the players from Kaunas will compete in Group A of the Main stage, where stronger teams are divided into groups of four – from each of them, three of the best teams will advance to the Elite stage.

“We are looking forward to these matches with anticipation. The Champions League is always a special tournament for us. We always strive to prove that “Kaunas Žalgiris” can compete with the strongest teams in Europe and bring honor to the name of our country”, – said Justinas Zagurskas.
