The current Benfica coach José Mourinho, recently closely linked with Real Madrid, recalled his time at AS Roma.
In an interview with the newspaper Il Giornale, the Portuguese said: "For me personally, Roma was one of the most beautiful places in my career. I never felt such an environment associated with a football team. The Olímpico stadium was always full, and the fans' belief in the players was amazing."
In Rome, it wasn't necessary to have very high-level football; there was no drama, because when we won the Conference League, the party was amazing, nothing like that even happened when I won the Champions League, but my time in Rome came to an end.
I don’t want to say too much. Perhaps I will only mention the fact that no one can blame the Roma fans for not winning. The team’s fans are the ones who really help the team. They are untouchable."
With AS Roma, J. Mourinho fought for the Conference League title, and in the following season reached the Europa League final.
