At the end of last year, the rumors about the upcoming extremely rare "Super Golden Ball" award are gaining momentum.
The account controlled by the publication "France Football" wrote on X network:
The "Golden Ball" prize has no analogs, but in 1989 one player received an exclusive trophy that no other football player has – the "Super Golden Ball." Who is he?
And if we award this prize again, who should receive it?
As previously reported by the portal AS, the ground is being prepared for Lionel Messi, who would be the obvious favorite for the award.
This trophy is awarded to the best player of the last three decades and has so far only been awarded once to the legendary Real Madrid forward Alfredo Di Stefano.
The laureate was chosen by counting the votes of fans, the "France Football" committee, and former "Golden Ball" winners.
The second place went to Dutchman Johan Cruyff, and the third to Frenchman Michel Platini. However, it is true that only Europeans were considered in the voting at that time, leaving stars like Pele or Diego Maradona on the sidelines.
