In the A League – historic victory of 'Banga' against 'Žalgiris'

The 10th round of the "TOPsport A league" continued in Gargždai, where "Banga," having won two consecutive matches, met the struggling Vilnius "Žalgiris." Confidently playing both in attack and defense, the Gargždai team overcame "Žalgiris," celebrating a victory with a score of 2:0 (1:0).

Without delay, the Vilnius team actively started the match. Two shots from the Žalgiris players were blocked by the home team's defenders, while Patrikas Matyžonokas and Kassimas Hadji shot next to the post.

After more than half of the first half had passed, Carlos Olsesas, the debutant goalkeeper from Vilnius, was tested by Deividas Malžinskas. A little later, Rokas Filipavičius had a wonderful opportunity, but twice the goalkeeper saved the team.

In the 31st minute, the "Žalgiris" players made a serious mistake in their half, and Ignas Venckus, seizing the ball, struck the post, and with a follow-up shot, Vaidas Magdušauskas put the team ahead.

Shortly after, the guests had the chance to restore balance, but P. Matyžonokas failed to hit the target from a good position. Just before the break, during a set piece, D. Malžinskas came close to doubling the lead, but his shot was saved by the Venezuelan legionnaire, C. Olsesas.

In the middle of the second half, Simao Junior had a fantastic opportunity from a set piece, but his shot was cleared off the goal line by the young Žalgiris player Vytis Pavilonis.

The first serious chance for the guests after the break was created only in the 80th minute. Machopas Cholas, who had just entered the field after a substitution, received a cross but failed to connect properly with the ball and did not manage to beat goalkeeper Mantas Bertašius.

In the 87th minute, the hosts solidified their lead. The defenders of Žalgiris made another serious mistake near their penalty area, and Nouri El Harmazi seized the ball, sending it into the net and reinforcing the team's advantage.

With this victory, representatives of "Banga" climbed to 6th place with 14 points. Meanwhile, the "Žalgiris," collecting points at a slow pace recently, is in 7th position with 12 points.
