The central match of the 27th round of the Lithuanian Football A League, supported by "TOPsport," took place in the capital. The carousel of events was in favor of Vilnius "Žalgiris," which dramatically outperformed "Panevėžys" with a score of 2:1 (1:0).
In the 15th minute, a shot by Elivelto Ribeiro Dantas, who sprinted down the right flank, was saved by Carlos Olsesas, and shortly after, Liviu Antalis aimed for the opponents' goal. In the 26th minute, the Brazilian broke through on the other flank and was looking for a teammate in the penalty area, but the goalkeeper thwarted the danger.
"Žalgiris" took the lead in the 42nd minute – Bruno Tavares rolled the ball to a speeding Juryj Kendyš, whose shot from a long distance hit the net. Danger arose near Vytautas Černiauskas's goal again in the 67th minute when Giedrius Matulevičius attempted to target the far corner, but the ball whizzed past the crossbar.
In the 77th minute, G. Matulevičius was inaccurate; just after a few episodes, Nemanja Mihajlovičius was looking for a teammate in the penalty area, but the recently substituted Patrikas Matyžonokas could not reach the ball.
As the match was coming to a close, Seydina Keita, receiving a cross from a corner kick and being near the far post, could have equalized the score, but he did not hit the ball as he wanted.
In added time, the carousel of events spun – Kwadwo Asamoah was accurate after a mix-up in the penalty area, but the guests could not rejoice for long over the equalizing goal, as Abdoulas Dante inadvertently scored an own goal shortly after.
After the 27th round, "Žalgiris" ranks fifth with 40 points, while "Panevėžys," having suffered a defeat, has gathered 37 points and occupies the 7th position in the league table.
According to tv3.lt journalist Mantas Krasnickas, this was Vladimir Čeburinas's last match at the helm of "Žalgiris."
