H. Maguire: 'The club wants me to lead the team forward' © AP

Harry Maguire this season is one of the most stable defenders of Manchester United, which has allowed the Englishman to receive a call-up to the England national team again.

The 33-year-old defender's contract with Man Utd will expire after this season, but both sides are inclined to continue the cooperation.

About this spoke Maguire himself.

"Talks are ongoing. I have no doubt we will find the best solution for all parties. The club wants me to lead the team forward and sees an important role for me.

The upcoming summer will be incredibly important for Man Utd. A very important decision regarding the coach is ahead, and I have no doubt that the best decision will be made,” Maguire stated in an interview with The Standard.

The former Man Utd captain also reviewed Ruben Amorim's stint in Manchester and stated that the Portuguese led the team in the right direction.

"It is clear that one of the problems was our formation on the pitch. The results were certainly unsatisfactory.

I can’t say anything bad about Amorim. He had great ideas. It’s just that some of his ideas did not work in our club. I have no doubt that he has a great career ahead of him somewhere else. The players should also take a lot of responsibility for the failures.

Amorim directed the club in the right direction, and for that, we have to be grateful to him,” Maguire added.
