G. Donnarumma revealed his emotions after elimination from the World Cup qualifiers

Italy's national team goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma commented on the sadness after his country missed the World Cup for the third time in a row:

"I cried, and that was the only thing I felt.

I cried out of disappointment that I couldn't lead the Italy national team to where it deserves to be.

I cried because of the great sadness I feel together with the entire team.

I am proud to be the captain of the 'Azzurri' and I know that at this moment you feel the same, our national team fans.”

The Italy national team last competed in the World Cup in 2014.

They lost in the decisive match after a penalty shootout to the Bosnians.

27-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma has been playing for the Italy national team since 2016.
