Former Tottenham and Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale revealed that he could have moved to Manchester United:

I spoke with head coach David Moyes, but I still preferred to move to Madrid.

I had an agreement with Daniel Levy that was more gentlemanly... Because he didn't want to sell me to big rivals. We don't want to strengthen another team.

So, if a team from Spain, Italy, or Germany made an offer, wherever that may be, I could talk to them.

So we had that gentlemanly agreement, which made things somewhat complicated.

I believe I made the right decision, considering those years.

I didn't talk to Manchester United about salaries; that wasn't reached.

They offered more money than Real for me, but, to be honest, that didn't really matter.

The 36-year-old Gareth Bale played for Tottenham from 2007 to 2013 and scored 55 goals in 203 appearances.

Later, the Welshman played for Real until 2022.

He was also loaned to Spurs in the 2020-2021 season.
