After the unexpected draw (1:1) in the World Cup qualifying group against the Malta national team, Lithuanian head coach Edgaras Jankauskas regretted the missed opportunities.
"We started the match very strongly, very well. We had a chance to score in the second minute.
Until the 27th minute, it seemed that a goal was imminent. I don’t know, maybe we thought that Malta would be toothless, as they were, but we lost our structure, and we gave them wings, allowing them to come into our half of the pitch.
In the second half, we wanted to have more of our players near their goal, but when we made a mistake, they skillfully took advantage of our error and scored a goal with ten minutes left.
According to the script, when we scored the equalizer at the last moment, it should have been enjoyable, but looking at it more broadly, we should have scored that goal much earlier because there are always moments in the game when the opponent creates their chances,” the portal lrt.lt quotes E. Jankauskas’s words.
