E. Jankauskas: "Men demonstrated a supernatural character" © lff.lt

The Lithuanian men's football team tested their strength against European football giants on Sunday evening.

The FIFA World Cup qualifying match between the Lithuanian and Dutch teams took place in Kaunas. The Lithuanians tried to challenge their strong opponents, but the Dutch proved their superiority and, after a tough battle, defeated the Lithuanians 3:2 (2:2).

After the match, the home team's coach Edgaras Jankauskas thanked his players for their effort.

"I would suggest learning to enjoy the small things as well. Of course, the main goal is points, but we need to learn to celebrate."

I believe that the players, despite the losses and difficulties, did an amazing job. The defensive start was tough; we conceded two goals, perhaps too easily. But when it's 0:2, coming back into the game and not breaking down – that is our main value, our aspiration. The men demonstrated incredible character.

This is a great victory – a significant step, let's put it that way, since, unfortunately, there were no actual victories," quotes E. Jankauskas from the lrt.lt portal.
