During the draw ceremony for the World Cup groups held in Washington on Friday, special attention was drawn to US President Donald Trump.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino presented him with the newly established Peace Prize.
However, such a decision may have violated the organization's rules.
Former head of FIFA's internal investigations department Miguel Maduro spoke about the potential violation.
“I eagerly await how it will be clarified whether this decision violated our rules.
First of all, this is how FIFA takes its position regarding a political figure. Moreover, it sends a signal to a person who is actively involved in politics.
The prize itself, devised by FIFA, is not an issue. The problem arises when FIFA's political neutrality is violated.“
