The tiny African country's football fans will long remember yesterday's World Cup qualifying match.

The team from São Tomé and Príncipe, playing at home, beat the Malawi eleven 1-0.

This is the first victory for the country with a population of 235,000 in World Cup qualifying tournaments since 2005.

Despite the successful performance, the team from São Tomé and Príncipe finished last in their group, having gathered only 3 points over 10 matches.
