The situation of the national team was commented on by Iran's sports minister Ahmad Donyamali, who stated that his country's team would not be in the World Cup.

"Due to the malicious actions of the USA, which have caused two wars in our country over the past eighteen months and killed thousands of people, I do not see any possibility for our national team to play in the upcoming World Cup,” – the Iranian sports minister explained to the national television.
